Mar. 4th, 2017 05:37 pmSo what's this game about?
Helladas is a fantasy game set in ancient Greece, pitting men against gods in a quest for immortality. Its central themes are faction-based player vs. player interactions and open world exploration. Developments in-game will rely heavily on the actions and decisions made by characters.
What are the two sides?
Characters can fight for the gods, and oppose the quest for immortality, or fight for men, and chase after the pieces of the immortal key.
My character was taken against their will! Do I still have to fight?
Yes and no. While a character isn't forced to do anything, without the benefits of joining a side they will be shunned by both, ejected from central hubs, and targeted relentlessly. Simply put, neutrality is not going to be a viable option for most characters, as it carries with it serious risks.
Are my characters' abilities nerfed?
Only the most gamebreaking ones (time travel, hammerspace, reality manipulation, etc). Characters are otherwise allowed to keep any abilities.
Does everyone speak the same language here?
They do! Congratulations, your character is now fluent in Greek, and speaks it automatically. A character can use other languages if they concentrate.
What's the network like?
All characters are given one of two special coins on entry: one depicting the head of Zeus (those who joined the forces of the gods), and one depicting the head of Hector (those who joined the forces of men). When rubbed, it will communicate with everyone who holds the same kind of coin. It defaults to audio, but if flipped it will float and grow to the size of a dinner plate, from which video broadcasts can be made.
Can I obtain coins from the other side?
You sure can! Currently the only way to do this is to steal from another character, but that won't stop you, right?
What's the NPC presence like?
The gods can be contacted through the Shrines page. You may pray to one god per character per month. Other NPCs may pop up sporadically, addressing the network or appearing in certain battles or events. Specific threads with these NPCs cannot be requested and occur at random.
How does transportation function?
Characters will primarily utilize the pegasi network to get around. It's fast, efficient, and relatively inexpensive. Magically-propelled boats may also be employed for very long journeys across the sea, though these require a steep fee for room and board.
So when do I get to fight other players?
Scheduled PVP will take place during certain battles and events. These will be announced ahead of time, so you'll know about them! Spontaneous PVP is also encouraged at any time, over territory or simply just because, as both sides have already engaged in open hostilities with each other.
How often do events take place?
For now, bi-monthly, until the game settles into a more definitive pace.
How does currency function?
All characters are paid a living wage each month in drachmas, the currency of the era, in exchange for fighting. Anything beyond that will require a character getting some form of occupation, as patronized by the gods or hired by local employers. If your character doesn't fight, they don't eat!
Okay, so where am I living?
Those who took up the sword for the gods get to live in luxury on Mount Olympus, in one of the many ostentatious villas! (For the curious, these characters are "blessed" to be allowed to set foot on this sacred soil.) Those who chose to fight for men will found housing in Troy, in a basic apartment.
Can I go past the boundaries of the map?
Not at this time. A mystical, impassable wind will push characters away from it.
What are the activity requirements?
Pretty simple: TWO threads, with any combination of ONE thread with FIVE log comments or ONE thread with TEN network comments.
What happens if I drop?
Your character is wiped of their memories and returned to their home world.
What if my character dies?
They can come back to life... at a steep price. Revived characters will lose something precious to them in exchange for resurrection.

"Do you wish to live forever?"
Out of nowhere, you hear these words whispered to you—and feel compelled to respond, yes or no. Regardless of your answer, you are whisked away to the mythical land of Ancient Greece, spirited atop the majestic Mount Olympus or dropped in the glorious city of Troy. It is here your adventure begins: will you fight to obtain immortality with the men of this era, or join with the gods and strike down those who offend them thus?
Helladas is a open-world fantasy game that pits two forces against each other in player vs. player style combat. The forces of men contend with the forces of the gods, all in pursuit of a magical key that promises immortality. The pieces, scattered throughout the world, are the primary objective of both sides. Characters will participate in various events to acquire or defend these pieces and either assemble the key or destroy it once and for all.
